So, I have been looking around other sites that play mafia, and I have to say... none of them seem to play the way we do here at RM/TP/LP/HV.

Everywhere else seems to play the same way that mafiascum does - in that they have really long day periods, quickfire posts, first posts they are voting to lynch. They unvote and revote. Role claims, rudeness, stringent rules.... and while some are themed games, they don't really tell a story with their host posts. There also seems to be a penchant for analyzing game balance with statistics, formulas...

I like the way we play mafia!

What do you think about other mafia sites style of play?

Would you like to try a mafiascum style game here at RM?

Well, the only experience I have outside of RM/HV/TP and LP is one game recently at the GoT mafia board. I didn't really like it tbh. BUT the main reason was that there was just way too much posting going on and I didn't have a firm grasp on the rules. It might be fun to try a game like that here where I know everyone. I had no idea who anyone was over there. Even if they didn't use the sock puppets, I didn't know anyone's posting style or anything like that.

Like I said, it might be fun to try something like that here....I wouldn't do it on a large scale, but maybe one game to see how it goes and take it from there?

I love the story aspect of how we play here. That is something that really helps me get into the games. Especially when a host will use a running joke in their posts or add something to a day/night post from events that occurred during the respective phase.

I do think the idea of being able to change your vote could be interesting in certain games, but not all. I think it would really depend on the game mechanics and the host's pre-planned balance of the game.

On the whole though, I love RM and how we play here. I wouldn't want a change. :)

I am working on games that use some of the elements of those games. For instance, except for the game currently in sign ups at LP, I only want to host sockpuppet games now. I was intrigued by this before, from games here, but seeing it in conjunction with their alt rules have given me a few ideas i would like to explore.

I also like the idea of changing votes, and potentially being less rigid about poll times as an option to explore in my own games.

Overall, I prefer our way. I dislike their rules, and I dislike the way they handle perceived violations.

I only play here, and only one game from time to time, so Im probably not the best to talk :p cause I dont have a lot reference

I think Im a little bit old school
cause I dont like games that are to different even if I like unique elememts from time to time,
and when I had hosted here only 2 times, boths had something diferent :p but still some basic game mechanic
I dont like alter personalites games :p I tried once for a little while before I asked to be replaced and found out I did not like it :p so I will pass on those
Maybe a game where you can change votes could be interesting, but it will probably be ending a headache from the votting pattern aspect  I would had to think about it :p

yeah, I think Im old school :politegiggle:
but never say never

I guess I am tired of entire games and cases being built on play style. I remember in LOST when someone said "I think i know who "X" is, and this is their civvie game", I was so pissed. That defeated the whole point of the Socks, IMO. And how some people constantly base their opinions of people on their play in a few games can get nerve wracking.

I like the anonymity of socks.

I think I understand what you mean

I dont like alter game personalies, cause is so easy for people to know who Im, cause I talk an unique certain way
so is like Im in disadvantage cause I can not be someone else :p so is more a personal choice cause is not fun for me
but I would probably be not against hosting one :politegiggle: just not playing XD

This is true~ I know for me this "~" is hard to control, I would imagine it would be almost impossible to mask speech patterns. And I am glad you would consider hosting like that. I really want to work on hosting games like this, but also want to continue playing all the games we have to offer in all of our variety.

It is what i love about our community. We are open to experimentation and trying new things.

I just want to say that I love this mafia community!! RM is definitely the best place to play. I can't stand when things get personal in games and people get ugly towards one another. I honestly do not think I can remember a single instance of that happening here. I'm sure it has at some point, but I don't remember it.

Love you guys!!!!

I keep saying AlterEgo/SockPuppet games tend to have less active players due to the whole anonymous thing. People get disorientated and confused. Maybe it's because i haven't played alot of them, but the ones i did play (Cupcakes, AlterEgo, and a fair amount of the LOST players) had lower activity/interest than usual.

Mafiascum has some good ideas and i like games such as blindfaeth's Werewolf speed mafia that try to introduce some of their gameplay over here.

I thought Superheroes was very active, Tranq. And the people who were into it in LOST were very into it.

I've played several alter ego games - and I don't recall any of them being slow. In fact, it seemed that the games were much more active, not to mention fun, because nobody had preconceived notions as to allegiance. I really like alter ego games. I know some people have a hard time hiding their true identity mostly because they spill the beans in IRC or language reveals them...

My only issue with sockpuppet games is I get tired of having to switch accounts. I know it's a minor hassle, but I find it somewhat irksome.

I do agree with you, S~V~S, that trying to guess who someone is during a sockpuppet game definitely defeats the purpose and it's very frustrating to see someone say, "I think x player is so and so and this is their civvie/baddie game."

I think finding a good balance is nice. I LOVED Superheroes mafia because of the sockpuppeting, but the game itself was a straightforward mafia game. The LOST game was epic, but I got behind so quickly due to all of the twists and turns that I felt overwhelmed and started getting frustrated every time I tried to catch up, so I just gave up (part of that, and maybe this could be a suggestion for future sockpuppet games is that the names were all so similar that I couldn't remember who said what--I had a much easier time with the superheroes game because the names all stood out a lot more).

TL/DR: I think adding too many unique elements to one game becomes overwhelming. So my personal opinion is that if a game will be sockpuppet in style, the additional creative elements shouldn't be too extreme otherwise the game can become hard to follow.

:)

I have to say the latest sock puppets games have left me feeling the exact way tranq and FH said. I think superheroes was different because I was new the game then and you were all strangers to me.

Lost overwhelmed me tbh, as much ad I respected the hosts for making it huge.

This is good to hear. I LOVED Lost, just LOVED everything about it, but I do not know if I would have done so had I been a civvie in the dark. I liked the chat element, but I think I would have liked it better had more of them been private, like SOT, than public chats. Both from a civvie and a baddie perspective. Having the chats be public was really an awesome opportunity for baddie manipulation, it made getting the civs to trust us easier. It was also a pit trap for us as well, though, with more than one of us making slips or forgetting to log in or out. At one point I was juggling 4 Chatango log ins in one night. And I still got caught by Danielle. Richard came right in to try and distract her (poor Mike, flirting with Tranq to try and save my stupid ass :P) but it didn't work.

I like the element of changing votes. I used it in SKK and I like they way it turned out. I will most likely use this function in Rise of the Zombie King.

Yeah, vote manipulation is my fave mechanic. I went over the top with it in Dogma (in one lynch, one side bought 50 votes, and the other 100, lol), but it is incredibly useful.

My fave mechanic is the Traitor ability :evilgrinz: It worked incredibly well in Judge Judy so I try to have something like it in most of my games....

I also like a variation of LA's Djinni role from Enchanted Forest and LC's Venomous Imp from A World Apart .... and they always put in an appearance in my games in some form or another - two of my most favorite roles.

I like how we play here a lot. :) But I also think it's cool to try different types of mechanics. I remember being excited about the shop mechanic in final fantasy mafia, and the earning your power mechanic of pink floyd mafia, and the sock puppet thing in Lost just because they were different. The SKK game was also vastly different than I was used to at the time.

There are some places where they play with all the roles kept secret until they die and night kills come with role reveals. That would require a different kind of game balance than we're used to here, but it allows for a lot more surprising plot twists and I guess maybe more behind the scene actions or something? idk exactly how it works.

I think the movable votes idea, even though it's a relatively small change that would be easy to implement, would probably change a game quite a bit... as it is, it seems like most of the game discussion tends to happen hours before the lynch end time, because people wait til then to vote for someone. I might actually consider using this mechanic in my MLP game actually. :p

Ummm what else.... I guess I have mixed feelings about Sock puppet games... I like that it sort of turns the game into a more raw form without preconceived notions and stuff. It sort of detaches gameplay from experience and makes you have to use parts of your brain that you're not used to using... but I think it also makes it less of a social bonding game, like even though I probably spent loads of time talking with Jin Wang in Lost mafia, I don't really feel like I know Juliet's Coffee any better than I did before.

Oh and also, I think mechanics that give deadies limited influence on the game are neat, like in Lost Mafia and SKK.

Mine too. You will see mass amount of vote manipulation in all my games. Along with getting the dead involved. I love these two mechanics more then most others I have seen.

I'm going to try another bid system in Gotham City War Games. I'm hoping it will go well. Players will PM in a number of votes they are willing to start the next day with in order to buy items to use. I used it in SKK, but I'm going to expand upon the mechanic.

Also, I hate role revealing stuff as everyone knows................ :p

Kyle, the person you knew as Jin Wang was the real me! I can't remember how much time you spent in the hatch but that's where I behaved the most. And while I'm thinking about it, I loved the hatch mechanic though I know that was a very controversial part of the game.

I like throwing random players into BTSC too. It always nets a fun time, IMO.
