Welcome to IRC! Come on over and have some fun with us! Here's how to get there:

1. Click on RM IRC at the bottom of the forum page just above the mini chat.

2. Follow the instructions as prompted:
> Enter the nickname you want to use
> Click Connect*
> Prompt: Would you like to register your nickname? Click Ok
> Prompt: Please enter a valid email address. Enter email address.
> Prompt: Please Enter a password for this nick. Enter a password you want to use.
> Prompt: Please enter the code sent to your email. Do NOT click out of the pop-up box. Check email and copy/paste code only to pop-up box.
If this will not work for you see Troubleshooting Tips here or in the next post.

At this point you will be with us in the #RevMafia IRC channel! There we will help you with Steps 3 and 4.

3. Download Chatzilla, the Mozilla Firefox client. Using this client will make your connection with IRC stable. To download and start using Chatzilla click HERE. Follow all directions through and including Joining a Channel and restarting.

5. In the Auto-Perform box type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY yourpasswordthatyouregisteredwith

The next time you want to come to IRC #RevMafia you will be able to click Tools--->Chatzilla and automatically be taken to our IRC channel.

*If you get a message that your nickname is already in use, change it by adding a number or a _ to the end or change it altogether and try again.

Troubleshooting Tips for IRC Set-Up

If you go through the Registration Steps in the first post and nothing happens or you see a message that you've been disconnected from the server try these steps:

Step 1 - Refresh your page and try again.

Step 2 - If that doesn't work you can refresh your page and try again OR follow Steps 3 - 7

Step 3 - Go to http://chat.mibbit.com

Step 4 - On the "Connect" tab, scroll down or press the "R" key until you find Rizon [webirc]

Step 5 - In the "Nick" section, type your username. For example "DharmaHelper"

Step 6 - In the "Channel" section, type #RevMafia EXACTLY. This is our channel.

Step 7 - Click "Connect" and you will be taken to the channel.

Then you can use another IRC Client of your choice. The registering steps are still valid through the webclient however, and will be easier for you to begin with.

I use mIRC, others are using Nettalk, icechat. So find one you like. I am sure someone can help you get it setup.

IRC Rules of Conduct in addition to RM Forum Rules which also apply and can be found here

1: This is a multicultural group. If someone says they are offended by something you have said (or you are told they are), do not repeat the offense. Apologize. Many people can be offended by disparaging their Country, calling names, insults, cuss words. Show some respect for your fellow community members and think before you write.

2: No TV/Movie/Book spoilers. Ask if anyone minds discussing current show/movie/book. If someone objects, do not continue discussion.

3: Cussing. Two words in particular are deemed highly offensive and should never be used in our channel, in any language. Ask a Mod what they are if you do not know. ("c" word meaning female private parts; "n" word commonly used as a label for African Americans).

4: No illegal BTSC. Do not discuss current mafia games, that are ongoing at any site, in this channel. Exceptions: "Host post is up", "Game has started", "my head hurts from rabbit's game" and similar minor comments that are not on-topic. If you are told "No Game Talk" by anyone, that is your notice that you must stop.

5. Use of the urban dictionary to define offensive terms in the channel is prohibited.

Tip for avoiding rancor and upset: If you think you might have upset someone, offended them... apologize! An apology can go a very very long way to easing a situation.

Rule Violations and how they will be handled:

1: You will be reminded of the rules politely.

2: If you continue to violate the rules, you will be kicked

3: If you still persist, you will be banned from the channel.

General Disruptive Behaviour

If you decide to be disruptive during a scheduled event, you will be devoiced and the channel will become moderated.

Channel Moderation will also be used at the discretion of the IRCops if they deem a situation has arisen to warrant it.

Banning will be used as a last resort in any situation.

Right of Appeal

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly in the above scenarios, you can send a PM to IRCops group here at RM. All relevant transcripts will be reviewed and a determination made.

Remember, the channel(s) and this site exist and are managed to ensure that everyone has fun. We will not allow anyone to cause trouble or otherwise disrupt the enjoyment of others.

Troubleshooting Tips for IRC Set-Up

Step 3 - Go to http://chat.mibbit.com

Alternatively, I find that https://qchat.rizon.net/ works a little better than mibbit. It takes you right into rizon's server, and it seems to be more stable.

Just thought I'd share...

*edit* I just noticed that LT has the link at the bottom of the page going to qchat already. That's the one I'd use if I didn't use mIRC.
