@Bea: Terry Goodkind

You have to check them out! They instantly became some of my favorite books of all time! The first one is Wizard's First Rule.

I am forever grateful to rabbit's SoT mafia for introducing me to the series and to LT for convincing me to read them. I actually cried tears of happiness when I read the last book (well, the last one before the most recent one was released, but it was the last in a long storyline).

Okay, I think I've edited this post to be typo-free from my alcohol-fueled state! :ripz:

Thanks FH - I have been wanting to read them since wabbit's game. specially as I remembered LT saying how much she loved them. I did watch the seeker show for a while on TV. I had a very poor cable programing package at the old apt. If I was home the night it was on - there was literally nothing else on that I could watch. It kinda became a campy fav for a few months.

I hear the books are much more well done so I'm looking forward to reading them. :D

The books are infinitely better than the show. I watched the show too because while being pretty different from the books, I was still entertained (and I had fun driving my husband crazy pointing out all the differences between the books and the show :politegiggle: ).

Finished The Hunger Games back to back to back. Didn't like the ending but it was really good right up until the end.

I recently read the first two and have the third ordered from Amazon, since my local bookstore was out. I'll let you know what I think - it should be here soon. I really enjoyed the first two.

I also ordered Lucifer's Hammer and Once Second After. Has anyone read those? I just finished reading Earth Abides, so I guess I'm on a post apocalyptic kick.

A month or two ago I read Rise of the Governor, which tells the back story of one of the characters from The Walking Dead graphic novels. I was pretty disappointed and would only recommend it to a hardcore fan of the comic. I'm glad I read it, but thought the writing was pretty suck and I didn't care for the ending. The middle was good and it did have some cool tie-ins to the GN, but imo the good parts didn't really make up for the flaws.

I just finished reading the second GN of The Walking Dead... man, they really just get worse and worse. I thought the prison might be good or at least ok, but they are all losing their s*it completely!

Sounds like you are reading the volumes that contain 6 issues each, LC? I just picked up Vol. 15 the other day (it just came out), but couldn't stand still being behind, so I got bought issues 91 & 92 online. Now I am up to date:p Happy reading!!

There are five books, with two others planned - Sawyer is just behind. :p I still have to finish ADwD.

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows
A Dance with Dragons

edit: Oh, I see Sawyer already answered you - not sure how I missed that. :blind:

Yeah, I was late to the George RR Martin party...purposely. I held of reading any further than book one for the longest time. Finally, temptation took over.

I've heard from a few friends that book three is their favorite of the series.

Book 3 was excellent! So was Book 4...I cannot wait to start reading Book 5 but I have been trying to hold off reading it... it is sitting by my bed trying to entice me though! I also have to read The Omen Machine which I got for Christmas. I also ordered the new Dean Koontz book - 77 Shadow Street.

Decisions, decisions!

I just finished Mockingjay last night. You'll have to put in spoiler tags why you didn't care for the ending. I enjoyed it.

Next up in the rotation is Lucifer's Hammer...

Yeah, because that small plot detail is all that happened in the first 150 pages.

Finished Stephen King's 11/22/63 (JFK book) yesterday. It was pretty good, better ending then most of his stuff imo (although apparently it was his son who came up with it which may be why).

I finished A Feast for Crows a couple of days ago. AFFC was good but probably my least favorite book in the series.

And yesterday I started:

Indeed.

I'll put it in spoilers, I put this in the ASOIAF over on LP as well.

Spoiler:
I think Jon is going to live, only because such a huge deal was made about who his mother was in GoT. I'm pretty sure Ned wasn't actually his father, and that Lyanna (Ned's sister, who Rhaegar abducted, causing Robert to start the war) is his mother, and Rhaegar is his father. It makes things more interesting, because with Bran a cripple, and Jon (if it is the case) being the eldest male Targaryen heir, he could potentially be the King of the North and the South (now, he would still technically be a ******* unless Rhaegar secretly married Lyanna, although I think that may be a possibility, because I think she may of gone with him willingly).

I also think Melisandre knows all of this. Of all the families in Westeros, the Targaryens certainly seem to me to be the ones who would most likely be into worshiping the Lord of Light (all about fire, they're all about fire).

So ya, I don't see him dying (at least, not because of what happened at the end of ADWD).

Also, while looking online for whether people agreed with those ideas (and the common consensus seems to be that that will be how things play out, maybe not the part about Melisandre, but the rest), I checked whether Syrio really died, since that always seemed ambiguous to me. Apparently people think he survived, and got sent to the dungeons, where he changed himself, and became Jagen Hghar, the guy Arya saves, and he killed for her, and gave her the token that got her into the House of Black and White. That seems a little far-fetched to me, but the timeline fits, and Sansa did NOT see Syrio's head when Joffery was showing them to her, and he didn't say anything about having Syrio killed, and (in the show) when next we saw the man Syrio was fighting when Arya ran, he didn't look really badly beaten, as in Syrio managed to beat him and then escape.

Plus, a guy like Syrio, they may of put in the dungeons, to be used in that weird zombie thing that Qyburn built, assuming that had already started in GoT.

You could very well be right about Jon, boo. The books made it clear that Jon Snow had the look of his father, Ned, but Jon being his sister's child with Rhaegar would fit nicely there. I like it!

Now that you mention Qyburn....what do you think about the man that Qyburn got to be the new member of the Kingsguard to be Cersei's champion? I think it's the Mountain That Rides tbh..

Spoiler:
Right, I think it is Gregor, but I also believe he did actually die, and that Qyburn is some weird necromancer type or has someone who is (or they caught Beric, I don't think we've heard from him in a while, or Cat for that matter). Unless they were able to heal an extremely deadly poison, which with GRRM seems unlikely, then he has to of died. Plus they sent his skull to Dorne (unless they found another giant human being to kill and use). And ofc, according to the other Kingsguard, the champion doesn't eat or sleep or anything like that, which is a lot like Coldhands (who I assume is Benjen).

Yes, I think he died as well.

Speaking of dying...that was my first thought when I read Jon Snow's attack scene...where he was stabbed by his brothers. The last sentence was something like, "He never felt the fourth dagger. All he felt was cold." It made me think that maybe he did die...and perhaps Melisandre would resurrect him like Thoros did with Beric and Cat.

I'm going to create a thread for ADWD so we can discuss the book without the spoiler tags.
