Nevermind. It appears I have gotten books for a different class. :meh: Now we're doing Aenid, Gilgamesh, Trial & Death of Socrates, Three Theban Plays, and Odyssey.

Thankfully, the bookstore allows returns within 48 hours.

Those are all quite good actually.

Odyssey is lots of fun - but yes, the reading of the verse can get dense at times. I loved Gilgamesh and I'm a sucker for anything about that evol youth corruptor Socrates.

I'm three chapters into Odyssey, and it really is very interesting. So much drama! I much prefer it to Gilgamesh.

ETA: I've finished Odyssey. It was time well-spent.

The Game of Thrones series has made me an absolute fan. LOST and Game of Thrones are like crack to me now.

Okay, enough of you have talked up Game of Thrones that I will be putting down my Sword of Truth books and picking up Game of Thrones so I can read the series before I risk getting spoiled.

The question though, do I finish the Sword of Truth book I'm currently reading and then start Game of Thrones? Or do I literally start Game of Thrones tonight?

Ugh, all the Odd Thomas books after the first one are so disappointing.

It's reading for a summer class. :D The first wasn't bad, but Socrates sure is a talker. He makes a hell of a speech though. What I'd do to have a gift like that.

@boo I never read the first one, but Brother Odd is starting out all right. He's got some really good thought-provoking passages in there. It's probably his style.

Can you name his best novels? I've read Relentless, and I thought it was pretty good.

Agreed. Odd Thomas was great, but the sequels were....meh.

Have you read his Frankenstein series? I've read the first 3. Books one and two are great, but book 3 is a letdown. Have yet to read 4 and 5.

Ya, I've read 4 of them, is the fifth actually out yet?

And agreed, the third was really disappointing. But, it was supposed to be a trilogy, that I guess he decided to make longer, and so he needed to give himself a way to continue it, but he didn't do a very good job at it. The fourth is probably worse then the third, the entire thing is just a set up for the next book.

I really don't think he's written a good book in years. I've read most of his stuff, but I think the last book I really enjoyed from him came out in like '04 or '05.

Yeah, I think he just writes too many books. He should have started slowing down ten years ago or so and just wrote quality books instead of doing it for numbers.

His beloved dog died and I think it affected him, tbh.

You need to read What the Night Knows! It is back to his old style and I really enjoyed it.

The Face is a good one. And ya, I got ADWD a day or 2 after it came out. It was better then the fourth, but didn't really touch the first 3.

Also just recently finished up the Dark Tower series. I'm glad my expectations were low going into the 6 and 7 book, or I'd of been really really mad.

Also (don't think it would be available at all in the US or anywhere else outside Canada really, but idk for sure), you should check out The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis. It's a political comedy, I read that one a while back and then finished the second one the other day. I normally almost always like the second book in a series less then the first, but he did an awesome job, I'm not sure I liked it better, but it was definitely as good as the first.

Finished The Face...not going to lie, I found it quite Dull up until the last 100 pages or so. WTNK is so much better.

Right now I'm reading Outpost by Adam Baker. Quite good so far. Might follow it up with Velocity or one of the other books I have recently bought.
